First meeting of the year

Last night was our first meeting of 2012 and three new members turned up – a good start to the New Year.

I’d done well in the after-Christmas sales in the supermarkets so we had new mugs to replace the old ones I “borrowed” from PTA stock when the group started and a large box of choccy bikkies to tuck into with our tea and coffee.  We are now well stocked for bikkies until at least May but it means that chocolate gingers are off the menu for a while.

As it is the start of the New Year with supposedly less risk of bad weather in the coming months we decided on our “Record Office Buddy” visits wish list.   So far its LICHFIELD, GLOUCESTER, MATLOCK, SHEFFIELD, MANCHESTER  (inc John Rylands) STAFFORD and NOTTINGHAM.  We’ll decide on likely dates at the next meeting when we’ve all sorted out our diaries.

The next Ladies Lunch will be on Thursday 16th Feb at the White Lion in Radford Semele.

We will be having a table at the Leamington Local History Fair on St 19th May this year.  It’s at St Peter’s church hall in Dormer Place.  Ideas for presentation/display will be gratefully received but provisionally I thought we should try and do a series of displays showing how much we can find out about a person from our tree.  We already did this as powerpoint presentations for a school  open evening some years ago so some of the work is already done which will help.  I want to get over the idea that family history isn’t just about tracing your tree back as far as you can.

If the Leamington library and Warwick library family history group are interested in having a table too we could maybe make sure we were near each other so as to make it easier to man them for the whole day.

Finally the next meeting is on Wed 1st Feb  (a bit soon because of school commitments and half term)
